It’s one thing to dream about a new futuristic ship design and to playfully prototype it as an amateur. It’s another thing to present your utopian speculative design project to the experts. But what could be better than receiving substantiated feedback from those who really know. Still I could sense a little excitement when Julian suggested to reach out to his collegue Rune Møller Jensen from ITU Maritime Hub at the IT University of Copenhagen. Luckily it turned out that Rune likes our fresh and hands-on and open knowledge sharing approach. Hence he suggested to present our project at the upcoming Maritime Research Alliance Research Festival 2025 on May 15th in Odense, Denmark.

For our application we also received a lot of promotion from Louise Vogel Georgi, the chief consultant and innovation and collaboration manager at ITU Maritime Hub (mHub) / InnoCollab. With her and Rune’s support we managed to get accepted by the organisor of the festival Thomas Roslyng Olesen and to be invited to present our SEMI-SUBMERSIBLE SAILING VESSEL SSSV OHANDA ONE in their poster session.
In addition to the poster Tuomo also designed nice postcards that we could handout at the conference.
We delivered and were quite successful in reaching out to various interested people from different fields of academia. Luckily we received a lot of very positive and encouringing feedback from many people we spoke to. Louise also then reached out to Danish Society of Engineers and the chairman of their maritime technical society found the project exciting. She proposed a workshop to him and he will discuss it internally with the other members of the IDA Maritime Board. So hopefully we will be planning for a workshop with their experts at ITU Maritime Hub in Copenhagen later this year. Ship Ahoy! 🙂
