It was a great privilege and pleasure to join the Imagining Godzilla trip this summer. Godzilla is an experimental platform for short term art-research projects, based on the sailing catamaran Godzilla.

Tuomo, Julian and I got invited by Andrew Best-Dunkley and Merja Puustinen to join their cruise from Middelfart to Kiel between July 7th and 10th, 2025.

And nothing fits better to planning to build a catamaran like sailing ship, than actually being on board of just the right one of them to start thinking about the next possible size of iteration for it. Even better when the weather conditions are perfect to sail 7 knots and more (~ 13 km/h) on moderate waves and mostly sunny days. We were so lucky!

Keeping ones eyes closed and focussing on the motion we could perfectly sense the roll, pitch and yaw of Godzilla with each wave. Or you might also just suddenly dream away and take a little nap. 😉

With every hour on deck we became more confident that a next version of an Ohanda One prototype at roughly the size of Godzilla would be feasible. So finally our residency at Imagining Godzilla in a wonderful and miraculous way fostered our curiosity and ambition to set the course for the next prototype – Ship Ahoy!
