The Shiplet Launching Ceremony (Part 1)

Somewhere Under the Rainbow …

We experienced a period of unstable weather when Dirk and I were ready to present our experimental remote controled Ohanda One 1:100 scale model prototype to the public. A crowd of roughly 50 people followed our invitation and gathered on Saturday 13th, 2025, at 15:00h to witness the shiplet’s launching ceremony at the “Modellboothafen” waterfront in Berlin’s Britzer Garten.

After giving a brief introduction to what we have been working on for the passed 8 years, it was time for the ship naming ceremony. As mentioned earlier, the 1:100 scale model protoype had various names, including “ohanda-one-dot-zero-one”, which weren’t really rolling off the Germans’ tongue so easily, until we decided to call it “Schiffchen” – German for “shiplet”. So now was the moment to finally proceed with the official ceremony. We popped the corks, gave everyone a glass of sparkling wine and unveiled the open secret: The shiplet is called “Schiffchen”!

As explained to the audience earlier, now we wanted to show what we have achieved. To demo that the shiplet can actually, swim, drive, semi-submerge and cruise calmly through the water it was time to move and to officially launch the shiplet.
